The unique porous coated surfaces of new additively manufactured (AM) medical implants have proven to be quite complex and are creating challenges with respect to effective cleaning. The nuances of these coated surfaces with respect to cleaning are shown along with a comparison to conventionally processed components.
The various changes in cleaning methods that have to be applied are discussed. Furthermore, a review of new approaches in design are discussed which may be critical to ultimate performance.
