Refractory Services - Petrochemical Industry

Refractories are mostly found in the refinery and downstream processes of the hydrocarbon process industries.

Refractory materials are used in the following units found on a petrochemical site:

  • Fluid catalytic crackers (FCC)
  • Fired heaters
  • Catalytic reformers
  • Catalytic reactors
  • Sulphur burners
  • Ethylene crackers
  • Petroleum coke calciners
  • Gasifiers
  • Incinerators
  • Stacks
  • Flares.

At Lucideon, our refractories experts understand that our clients in the petrochemical industry need:

  • Trouble-free unit commissioning
  • Long-term refractory lining stability
  • Reducing heat loss to minimise running costs and carbon footprint
  • Optimum operation between planned shutdowns
  • Safe and reliable refractory linings
  • Short shutdowns to limit production loss.

And so we offer the following services to the petrochemical industry:

  • Quality inspections and testing of materials ordered
  • Quality control and assurance of installations
  • Independent inspections of deteriorated linings
  • Assessment of proposed lining materials
  • Production of data for finite element analysis modelling
  • Optimal design assessment by Finite Element Analysis
  • Failure analysis
  • Assessment of ex-service materials to determine deterioration mechanisms
  • Refractories training for site employees
  • Refractories support.

We understand that refractory usage in a single plant does not justify a team of refractory experts to keep up with the latest developments in the refractory technology. As an independent company, with extensive involvement in this industry, we are there to deliver this service to you on a need-to-have basis.

Is your Plant Scheduled for a Shutdown Within the Next 9 Months?

Here's our tips on making your preparations relating to the refractory lining:

  • Are you going to replace your lining with one of the exact same design? If so, review your drawings to make sure you’re happy with them.
  • If you’re going to go with a new design, have you had this checked out by a third party?
  • Do your materials/linings specifications capture the requirements needed for the specific application?
  • Have you ordered the materials/linings? Make sure you receive confirmation of the quality of your materials, based on your engineering specifications.
  • Have you selected the most appropriate installation team? Do they have experience of the industry and of different material types? Have you engaged with them to understand their requirements?
  • Has a third party quality assurance team been appointed to oversee the execution of the work?
  • Has a full health and safety review been done?

It's important that all of the above is in place so as not to prolong the length of the shutdown.

At Lucideon, our consultants can work with you to make sure your shutdown is as painless as possible.
